In Person in Chapel Hill, virtual across North Carolina
Something isn’t working and you are ready for a change.
You may feel overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected from yourself or frustrated by patterns that seem to repeat no matter how hard you try to change them.
Perhaps you are a parent carrying the weight of concern for your child. You feel guilty and frustrated and worried, wondering why they're struggling and feeling pulled between wanting to help and not knowing what to do next.
These are more than just problems to solve, they are meaningful signals that something important is asking for attention.
Break out of old cycles & make space for something new.
While some therapy approaches focus primarily on relieving symptoms, depth therapy offers something different: it explores the underlying patterns and core issues that shape your experience.
By working at this level, we address not only the challenges you're facing today but also the root causes that keep them in place. I support my clients as they develop new ways of relating to themselves and others, creating lasting shifts beyond symptom relief.
Ultimately, this work fosters greater self-understanding, deeper and more fulfilling relationships and new possibilities for growth, healing and meaningful change.

my approach
Symptoms as communication
Behaviors that seem confusing or self-defeating often make sense when viewed in the context of a person's life. Procrastination may reflect anxiety or perfectionism. Irritability can signal chronic stress or burnout. A child's tantrums or withdrawal may express feelings they don't yet have words for.
Rather than seeing symptoms as problems to eliminate, I view them as meaningful communications. Instead of asking, "How do we get rid of this?" We can ask, "What is this trying to tell us?"
When we understand the emotions, needs, or experiences beneath the symptoms, we can address the root issue—not just the behavior itself. This creates opportunities for deeper healing, lasting change, and greater self-understanding.

hello,
I’M ERICA DOSSA, LCSW
I’m a licensed therapist in private practice specializing in helping adults and children move from stuck and overwhelmed to authentic and empowered.
In our work together, I aim to create a steady, supportive and gently challenging space where we can slow things down, explore what you (or your child’s) symptoms and behaviors may be communicating.
With advanced training in depth therapy and non-directive play therapy, I offer compassionate, personalized therapy tailored to you, your goals and your unique history.
